Veteran operator takes the Liebherr challenge at MaskinExpo
After this month’s ScotPlant show, the next big event on the calendar is MaskinExpo in Stockholm, Sweden. For me this is one of the more interesting shows as we get to see a whole host of interesting products from our innovative Scandinavian cousins.
During last year’s event I stopped by the Liebherr Challenge arena, where visitors were invited to register and take to the controls of a Liebherr A916 Litronic wheeled excavator, equipped with an Indexator tiltrotator, to perform a variety of tasks against the clock. As I arrived an elderly gentleman was just starting out on the challenge and it has to be said, he was looking a bit rusty on the controls.
After a few anxious moments with wheels leaving the ground and some guiding words from the demonstrator operator, the guy started to get to grips with the modern machine. In all fairness this would be challenging enough for regular operators, jumping on a new machine for the first time and trying to be intricate with it almost instantly, so I for one take my hat off to the guy for having a go.

Hopefully if I make it to the show again this year, I will be on the lookout for more challenge type events and reporting on the latest Scandinavian earthmoving technology.
