Big old Terex digs on

For those of you who message me on a regular basis asking for some material on larger excavators, I thought I would take a look at the classic O&K derived Terex RH170 in this blog post.

Big old Terex digs on
Although not the largest hydraulic excavator/face shovel out there, the 360 tonne RH170 has had a distinguished service record around the world since it was introduced by O&K in 1995. Powered by 2 x 24-cylinder Cummins engines which are capable of producing 1789.7kw (2400hp) these venerable old machines can load 100 tonne trucks in three passes when fitted with a 21m3 bucket. Solid German engineering and technology has helped to keep many of these machines working around the globe to this day. I have no idea where the example in this video from the Mega Machinery Channel is working but its an impressive sight to see as it loads out Terex TR100 trucks with ease, enjoy!
Following changes in ownership historically, ie, O&K, Terex then Bucyrus, we now see these machines marketed under the Caterpillar banner and I am sure we will take a look at some of those in future posts here on the Digger Man Blog.
