Bringing 180 tonnes to a full stop!

Looking around You Tube last weekend I came across this video taken by Earthmovers Editor Graham Black during a trip to Malaga in 2009 and thought it was worth taking another look at here on the Digger Man Blog.

Bringing 180 tonnes to a full stop!
The Caterpillar 777F is not the largest rigid dumptruck in the world by any stretch of the imagination, but it is still a big truck and an impressive one at that. Towering above you the 777F is some 17ft (5170mm) tall and has a vehicle length of 34.6ft (10535mm). The truck is powered by Cat’s C32 ACERT 12-cylinder turbocharged engine and the unit can achieve a top speed of 40mph (64.5kmh). So, imagine if this monster was hurtling towards you at speed and needed to attempt an emergency stop, would you be safe? This video shows a fantastic demonstration of the 777F being put to the test performing the aforementioned emergency stop. The young lady operating the truck at Caterpillar's Demonstration and Learning Centre in Malaga demonstrates how to pull up 180 tonnes of truck and material in front of an impressed audience, I think you will agree its an awesome sight to see!
