Brøyt goes walkabout

The Norwegian built Brøyt excavators were strange old machines by any stretch of the imagination and while researching around the internet about them I came across this video of a fully restored X21 Series 2 model.

Built in the early 1980’s the X21 Series 2 was a 13-tonne class machine which like many of the company’s models was totally undriven at the undercarriage, which meant that the machine operator had to use the digging arm to pull himself around a jobsite. For long distance travel the machine could place its bucket into the back of a lorry and be towed around by the truck, all very primitive, but it worked and in the Norwegian market the machines were highly regarded for their digging power and general strength! I came across one of these machines during my first trip to the Engcon factory in Strömsund, Sweden back in 2012.

The fine example in this video has been lovingly restored to its former glory by its owner Olav Wendelbo who I believe also owns a tracked X22TB model. It was being displayed at the largest construction plant and machinery show in Norway back in May this year, I think you will agree he’s done a cracking job on her!
