Classic Top Heavy Load

I spotted this classic archive photo last week that was posted on the Awesome Earthmovers Group page on Facebook and as we have featured this type of thing before, I thought it would make for another entertaining post here on the Digger Man Blog.

Classic Top Heavy Load
The shot possibly taken in the late 60’s early 70’s, the location of which seems to be unknown, shows what appears to be a fairly new Caterpillar 773 rigid dumptruck, which is fully loaded with a Caterpillar D9G tractor ready to be “piggy backed” to another location on the job. The dozer looks woefully top heavy up there and one can only imagine the truck driver had to drive extremely carefully to avoid any disasters! Of course, moving machinery like this was once common place in mines and on big construction projects, but would be seen as too dangerous and a health and safety risk in todays working environment. Another thing I love about this photo is the Volkswagen Beatle parked in front for scale, in what is a cracking shot of 3 iconic vehicles! We would like to thank Dave Losh the original poster of this shot and Awesome Earthmovers Group for the share.
