Digger’s day out at the Royal Cornwall Show (Part Three)

In this concluding post on the plant and machinery seen at the Royal Cornwall Show, I review some of the other kit highlights I spotted during this year’s event.

Digger’s day out at the Royal Cornwall Show (Part Three)
Regular exhibitors at the Royal Cornwall Show, Vincent Tractors, have recently changed their name after 52 years of trading to Vincent Tractors & Plant to further reflect the business and the breadth of products in its portfolio. The Kubota dealership had a number of machines from the Japanese manufacturer on show including this U27-4 model. The machine which featured a fully automatic hydraulic quick hitch and bucket from Bristol based Whites Handling, was one of two excavators sold to S & T Sleeman & Son. At Vincent Tractors & Plant’s recent Dig Day event the Kubota KX057-4 fitted with Engcon tiltrotator generated a lot of interest in the two products. Tiltrotator’s are really taking off at long last in the UK as end users realise the potential these game-changing attachments offer. This combo was presented again at the show for visitors to look at. On the Holt JCB stand the Bristol based dealer displayed a number of JCB products including the new revolutionary 7T-1 Hi-Viz forward tipping dumper with cab. This dumper offers a low centre of gravity and unparalleled all-round visibility for the operator all from the safety of his heated cab environment. Youngsters love diggers and associated machinery and at a family event such as the Royal Cornwall Show kids get a chance to get up close and personal with the equipment, like this young lad trying out the seat on the JCB VMT260-120 double drum vibratory roller. Torrington based earthmoving contractor John Coles Contractors (Coles Plant) were proud to be showing off their latest tractor unit which will be used to move its own and customers plant and machinery around the South West. The unit is the latest Volvo FH16 model. The cab features some impressive artwork on the rear featuring what was the first tractor and low loader unit the company ran, a Leyland with a single rear axle trailer carrying a Caterpillar 955 tracked shovel. Marubeni Komatsu are making a push in the South West of England and Regional Salesman Mike Darch was on hand to give us a tour around 3 examples on display from Komatsu’s extensive range of machines, the Italian built 8 tonne class PC80MR midi excavator, the 21 tonne PC210LCi built in the UK at Komatsu’s facility in Birtley and the D61PX dozer. Check out my video walk-around before the heavens opened!
One of Truro Tractors customers who was previously featured in Earthmovers, Ian Collick, has added a brand new New Holland 6 tonne class excavator to his fleet, replacing an outgoing JCB model. The E60C model is essentially a Hyundai machine in New Holland colours in line with the other member of the CNH group CASE. Ian tried one out previously and told us he was more than happy with the machine and as he already runs a New Holland backhoe loader, the new midi is the perfect match for his fleet. And finally, no edition of the Royal Cornwall Show would be complete without a display of operating skills from local plant hire, forestry contractor and machinery salesman Graham Sandercock. Graham’s machine of choice is the French built Mecalac 6 MCR a stunning machine with an equally stunning operator at the controls, check out this video of man and machine in action with slippery logs as the rain fell heavily during the last few hours of the show!
