Doosan’s at the double

On a recent visit to see Hywel Mason’s classic Priestman Mustang 220 I was given a tour around the family owned quarry business where perhaps not unsurprisingly, Doosan kit dominates.

Mason Brothers Quarry Products has been in business for 25 years, supplying a wide variety of stone, sand and other products across Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire. Producing a top quality product is the primary goal of the team working the quarry, at first glance you can see that this is a class act, in fact the thing that struck me first was just how clean, tidy and generally regimental the whole place is. I would say it’s one of the cleanest quarries I have ever visited an its certainly a slick operation.

Keeping things in the family the Doosan equipment that works the quarry is supplied by sister company Mason Bros. The first example we came across was an early DX300LC which has amassed in excess of 13,000 hours on the meter and is still running like a dream despite its fading paintwork.

In contrast the newest addition to the quarry fleet, a Doosan DX300LC-5 hydraulic excavator was working at the far end of the quarry loading the primary crusher and screener set up. Tipping the scales at 30,900kgs the machine is powered by Tier 4 Final emissions compliant Doosan’s DL08P 6 cylinder engine which offers a power output rating of 202kw (271hp).

Primary wheeled loading shovel is also from the Doosan stable in the form of a DL420 which was busy re-handling the screened material and stacking it on to the relevant stockpiles around the quarry.

As mentioned in the introduction I was visiting to see the old Mustang but I was delighted to be given a tour of this first class quarry and I would like to thank Mason Brothers for showing me around on the day.
