Getting up close and personal with the Cat 992K

Last week I had the pleasure of visiting a massive new Caterpillar 992K which has been delivered to the Aggregate Industries Torr Works Quarry in Somerset.

Incredibly the 992 has been in the Cat wheeled loader line up since it was first introduced way back in 1968 and has become something of a benchmark for large wheeled loaders working at the quarry face around the globe. Its pretty rare for me to get close to these machines as I tend to report on the smaller machines generally so it was a great treat to be able to visit this giant K Series model during its early working life at the famous Torr Works quarry.

I am saving the details for my article in Earthmovers Magazine but in the meantime, we can enjoy this video of the machine in action and a brief walkaround which I took on the day.
