Hat-trick of new Doosan DA30's for RJT Excavations

RJT Excavations Limited (RJT), based at Jedburgh in Scotland, has purchased three new Doosan DA30 articulated dump trucks (ADTs) from James Gordon Ltd (Gordons), the local Authorised Dealer for the Doosan construction equipment range.

Hat-trick of new Doosan DA30's for RJT Excavations
Prior to placing the DA30 order, Euan Heard (RJT Assistant Plant Manager) and the site team from RJT Excavations carried out extensive trials both at Doosan’s proving ground in the Czech Republic and on their site in the UK. It is the first time RJT has purchased a Doosan product and before doing so they put the DA30 to the test, up against all the competitors in the market on the same site, in challenging and varied ground conditions matching the expected environment that they will be required to operate in. Kim Dudley, Doosan Regional Manager – Northern Europe, commented: “RJT’s on site team has nothing but positive feedback on the build quality, load capacity, traction in poor conditions, operator comfort, manoeuvrability and fast cycle times offered by the DA30 ADTs.” Being new to the Doosan brand and to Gordons, RJT’s main concern was aftersales support for breakdowns, service and parts.  All of these questions were more than satisfactorily answered by Gordons and backed up by Doosan’s attractive 5 year/10,000 hour warranty on the ADTs.  This gave RJT the confidence in the product, support and supplier to go ahead and place this important order. Euan Heard commented: “Being a contractor, downtime is a major concern to RJT.  Gordon’s excellent network coverage and the Doosan manufacturer’s warranty has given us peace of mind for the long term and we look forward to a good working relationship with Gordons and Doosan.” RJT was formed in 1989 by Robert James Turnbull as an earthworks and general groundworks contractor based at Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders and grew from humble beginnings to be rated independently by the UK’s New Civil Engineer magazine in 2009 as one of the UK’s top 75 Civil Engineering Contractors. RJT is at the forefront of specialised plant and equipment, bulk earthworks, groundworks, stabilisation, remediation, contract crushing and other plant orientated activities.  RJT Excavations runs a state-of-the-art fleet of over 50 items of heavy plant along with experienced operators and supervisors enabling the company to tailor plant to match client requirements. The company can also offer a wider range of civil engineering services (roads, drainage, foundations, surfacing, street lighting etc) whilst maintaining the ‘family values’ that have made it a unique business. RJT carry out contracts varying in value from a few thousand pounds to over £5 million.  The company provides national coverage from its main yard at Jedburgh and regional offices in Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland and Leeds in Yorkshire, England.  Like all Doosan ADTs, the DA30 features an articulation hinge positioned behind the turning ring to provide equal weight distribution to the front axle even during maximum steer articulation.  This together with a free-swinging rear tandem bogie ensures equal distribution of weight to each wheel and guarantees permanent 6-wheel contact and drive for equal power distribution and excellent traction on difficult terrain.  Collectively, the forward turning point, the unique tandem bogie and the sloping rear frame results in ‘best in class’ rough and soft terrain capabilities and avoids the need for electronic aids such as traction control. Pictured above (left to right) – Euan Heard, Assistant Plant Manager at RJT Excavations Limited, at the handover of the three new Doosan DA30 ADTs from Darren Nicholson, Area Sales Manager for Gordons.    Unmatched Fuel Consumption The ‘best-in-class’ fuel consumption of Doosan ADTs is down to a combination of features including Scania diesel engines and a ZF EP transmission, improving the transfer of power from the engine to the wheels for outstanding traction.  When this is coupled with the enhanced rear differential system which reduces engine rpm and further increases machine durability, customers are ensured of an improved cost per tonne carried with the Doosan ADT range. The Doosan DA30 is powered by the Scania DC9 276 kW (370 HP) diesel engine, meeting the Stage IV/Tier 4 Final emission regulations through the use of both Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) technologies, with an electronic engine brake system, one of four brake systems on the truck.  Doosan’s Stage IV/Tier 4 Final ADTs do not need a diesel particulate filter (DPF) to meet the emission regulations.
