JCB Hydradig clearly a winner for Eurovia Contracting

Eurovia Contracting has completed a major roadbuilding contract three months early with the help of a brand new JCB Hydradig.

JCB Hydradig clearly a winner for Eurovia Contracting
The leading civil engineering firm was the main contractor on the Ł5.4m Peppermint Junction project in Holbeach, Lincolnshire for its client Lincolnshire County Council. The project included the creation a new three-arm roundabout at the A17/A151 junction, making access to the A17 safer, easier and faster than the previous T-junction. It also included the addition of a second roundabout that will provide access to housing and commercial development land. The JCB Hydradig 110W - complete with Eurovia’s white, blue and red corporate livery and a JCB factory-fitted Steelwrist tilt rotator - was used to carry out a series of roles across this large-scale site, including materials handling, concrete breaking, kerb placing and excavation tasks. Eurovia Contracting’s Divisional Fleet & Plant Manager, Chris Forrest said: “The Hydradig gives us true versatility with the breaker and the ditching buckets. Functionality is increased even further with the Steelwrist - you’ve got the option to break out one day, ditch the next and it’s fantastic for fork operation too. It benefits us in a lot of ways. We’ve now experienced the fantastic visibility it gives on site, which improves our health and safety performance, and we don’t have to hire in more kit, so we’ve been more cost-effective on site.” Eurovia Contracting’s Hydradig Operator at the Holbeach site, Ian Walker added: “Visibility is a lot better than with other machines – and that’s all-round visibility – you can see everywhere, whereas you tend to find on other excavators you get blind spots. You can also see the footprint of the machine better, so obviously you have more chance of seeing if somebody’s working next to you. For daily checks everything is where you need it to be – at ground level – so you can get to it all easily.” The revolutionary JCB Hydradig 110W has established a completely new market segment in Europe since its launch in 2016, delivering unparalleled visibility, stability, manoeuvrability, mobility and serviceability. Powered by a fuel-efficient, low emission JCB EcoMAX 444 diesel engine, the 11.5-tonne model can easily rotate its upper structure within a single highway lane. The machine’s all-wheel steer chassis provides a compact turning radius of less than four metres and it can travel at up to 40km/h where permitted, for rapid relocation on site. Established for nearly 40 years, Eurovia Contracting is the civil engineering and construction division of Eurovia UK Ltd working throughout the UK. Expertise includes delivering highways and infrastructure schemes ranging from improving public areas to major carriageway construction and structures maintenance. The new Hydradig joins 18 3CX Compact backhoe loader models currently in operation for Eurovia Contracting through one of its supply chain partners.
