Mega launch for Mecalac's MWR range

Today the Digger Man Blog and Earthmovers Magazine will be joining a large and illustrious group of International journalists in France to witness the official launch of the new Mecalac MWR wheeled compact excavator.

Mega launch for Mecalac's MWR range
We first caught sight of Mecalac’s MWR wheeled excavator in Munich during Bauma 2016 when it was displayed as a concept model and indeed was a winner of a Bauma Innovation Award at the show. The compact wheeled excavator (rubber duck) market is rapidly gaining momentum across Europe as many end users see these machines as a logical replacement for the venerable backhoe loader in their fleets. There has been a lot of hype in recent months about this type of machine especially in the UK and interest in the concept is massive. Mecalac says the main issues it has addressed with this machine are stability, accessibility and serviceability, three core points that have been the focus of the design work on its new wheeled MWR range of compact excavators. It all sounds very familiar but in all fairness this machine looks set to be a real class act. “Lowering the centre of gravity has proved to be the key. Rather than add new solutions to its existing wheeled excavator ranges, Mecalac's designers decided to create a new concept: a combination of the rotation of a wheeled excavator and the stability of a telescopic handling vehicle,” says the company. All the components in the upper carriage have been lowered as much as possible, and the shapes of the upper carriage and undercarriage have been completely redesigned around the oscillation of the wheels. The diesel tank, traditionally positioned on the upper carriage, has been integrated into the lower undercarriage, between the wheels. Check out this promotional video which explains the ideas behind the design.
The machine has since appeared at the ConExpo show in Las Vegas, but today is its official launch and one I am really looking forward too. Look out for exclusive material from the launch event on our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts during the course of the 2 day event internet permitting.
