A Lincolnshire contractor has bought one of the first demolition specification JCB X Series excavators – praising its durability, technology and quietness.

New JCB X Series is a masterpiece for A.R.T. Demolition
Lincoln-based A.R.T. Demolition has purchased the new generation JCB excavator for dismantling duties on its projects across the Midlands. Supplied by dealer TC Harrison JCB, the JCB 220X model has been configured for the arduous demolition environment with the addition of cab protection and heavy undercarriage guards. A.R.T. Demolition Managing Director Adam Thurlby, said: “We choose JCB wherever possible as we are proud to support a great British manufacturer. The reliability is excellent and the back-up from our dealer is second to none. “We know just how much detail has gone into this machine so we knew it was destined to be special. The finished version does not disappoint. I am a big fan of the existing JS models but this has been thoroughly overhauled and taken to the next level.” Operator, Chris Bills added: “We are mainly using the new JCB on secondary demolition applications and it is performing well with a range of attachments including a concrete pulveriser. I’ve already put the machine through its paces and I’m impressed. The cab layout is fantastic, the level of technology is incredibly sophisticated and I could not believe just how quiet the 220X is.” The brand new 220X joins an extensive line-up of JCB excavators in the A.R.T. Demolition fleet. These include the compact 86C-1, three JS220 models, a JS330 and two flagship JS370 machines which weigh in at 42-tonnes following the addition of heavy-duty modifications, fitted by Newark-based MCB Brothers which also provided the additional protection for the X Series model. The brand new JCB 220X, 20-tonne tracked excavator model, launched earlier this year, has been designed to provide maximum operator comfort, durability and reliability in operation. Over a four-year development period, JCB has undertaken a programme of intensive component and product testing, to achieve increased levels of build quality and reliability for customers in this advanced new machine. The new X Series machine features a 15% larger cab with integral ROPS structure, reduced noise levels, simple user interface and stronger side doors for greater strength and increased protection. They also benefit from a central main boom mounting for increased digging accuracy and durability, and a 200mm wider upper structure which delivers improved packaging. A.R.T. Demolition boasts expertise in demolition, crushing, salvage and asbestos surveys and removal, working across Lincoln and the surrounding areas. It undertakes the complete or partial demolition of any structure or plant machinery, from small houses for the private sector, to large industrial sites for major construction companies. Established in 1960, it is a family business that has expanded considerably and boasts a modern and extensive range of demolition plant and equipment including: excavator-mounted hydraulic breakers, shears, concrete pulverisers, grapples, crushers and screeners. As well as its excavator models, the company also operates JCB wheeled loading shovels, telehandlers, excavators, tracked and wheeled skid steers. The range of equipment is completed with a DustBoss suppression unit, static and mobile welfare units, low loader and bulker trailers, forklifts and dump trucks. Managing Director Adam Thurlby is a full member of the Institute of Demolition Engineers and all relevant staff members are fully trained and qualified for operating plant and equipment, undergoing complete health and safety training in conjunction with C.I.T.B standards.
