O&K in South Africa (Classic Archive Footage)

Came across this classic promotional video recently and figured it would be of interest to Digger Man Blog readers.

To be perfectly honest, I was not aware that the old German based manufacturer O&K (Orenstein & Koppel) had such a large presence in South Africa back in the day, but as this video shows they were very active in the region, not just in the construction and mining market, but also in the railway & infrastructure sectors and even had their own premises in Johannesburg. But it was the large mining shovels and excavators that we all fondly remember O&K for and as you will see in this video there were plenty of them working in the region in those days. The footage features a soundtrack very reminiscent of Harry Enfield’s spoof character Mr Cholmondley-Warner but that was pretty much the standard for such videos back then! Enjoy the footage.
