Volvo’s Big Boy makes an impact

During my recent visit to the Volvo Days event in Eskilstuna, Sweden, we were fortunate enough to see Volvo’s largest ever excavator the EC950E being put through its paces in the demonstration show and later in the test drive area.

Volvo’s Big Boy makes an impact
Whichever way you look at it the EC950E is an impressive looking piece of kit and along with the new R100E rigid dumptruck and the A60H articulated hauler dominated the amazing demo show put on by the team of operators at the Eskilstuna venue. Powered by Volvo’s in-house D16E 6-cylinder engine the machine has a power output rating of 450kw (611hp) making this 90-tonne class excavator big on power and performance. The Korean built machine is currently only offered in less regulated regions but we expect that situation to change soon. We know there is plenty of interest in this machine with some of the major players in the UK earthmoving and mining sectors already. There were over 300 people attending the Volvo Days event at the time of my visit and I was not prepared to join a long queue for a test drive on the EC950E, however our Danish friend Lasse Holst of the Danish Construction Channel, is a pretty determined guy and towards the end of the day, he made his move to gain some much sought after “stick time” on the big fella! Check out Lasse’s video of his time in the seat.
I hope to return at some point in the future for a full on exclusive day of test driving Volvo Construction Equipment’s latest offerings.
