Why did the P&H cross the road …

Here is something many, if not most of us, will never see in real life, a giant 1,120 tonne face shovel crossing a main road.

Why did the P&H cross the road …
I came across this video on PA Mining’s You Tube Channel recently and figured it was a good one to share with the Digger Man Blog masses. When it was time to shift this 1997 P&H (Pawling & Harnischfeger) 2800XPB a relatively short distance to a new mine it was decided to track the machine as opposed to dismantling it. This would involve tracking the massive rope controlled machine with its 42 cubic yard bucket, across a main road. Rubber conveyor belt was laid down to minimise damage to the road surface and the electric driven machine was followed by a support truck carrying a Cat 3516 powered generator to provide the juice for the journey. Whichever way you look at it, this is impressive stuff and its great to see these giants moving around under their own steam! Enjoy the video.
