Komatsu’s show stopping shovel

Bauma 2016 already seems like a distant memory now, but with the big kit that was on display often unseen in Europe it’s still great to look back at some of the most memorable machines on show in Munich.

Komatsu’s show stopping shovel
Komatsu’s PC7000-6 mining shovel was without doubt the show stopper at the triennial Bavarian machinery fest that is Bauma. The giant machine which tips the scales at 677 tonnes was a focal point for visitors throughout the week long event, with thousands of visitors taking the opportunity to have their photos taken stood inside the giant 36m3 face shovel bucket. DSC_0157 The giant machine was the largest ever displayed at a Bauma Trade Fair and really was a sight to behold. They are certainly not the type of thing one see’s every day and it was my first time getting close with such a large excavator, Although I was not privileged enough to get the VIP tour on the machine, Earthmovers Scottish correspondent David Wylie did get a close up experience with the PC7000-6 and has promised us an exclusive video for a future blog post. DSC_0284 It is understood that there are two of these German built shovels currently in operation, working in large open cast mining pits in Australia and Canada. The machine takes its power from two 1250kw diesel engines and is designed to work with trucks in the 240 to 290 tonne class. This machines perfect match in the Komatsu range would be the 830E and 860E haulers. DSC_0158 It was great to see the giant machine flanked on either side by other machines from the Komatsu range including its tiny PC09 mini excavator and the 85PXi dozer on the other side demonstrating the depth and breadth of the Komatsu range of products. DSC_0286 Here is a video from the stand shot by our good friend Lasse Holst of the Danish Construction Channel who also later gained access to the machine.
