Digger’s weekly social media round up #12

Taking our now regular look back now at some of the highlights of the Digger Man Blogs social media activity and interaction with our readers and members from the past week.

Digger’s weekly social media round up #12
Digger Man Blog reader Ben Watling posted a photo this week of how he improvised a sling in his Volvo excavator to keep his leg elevated after an operation to fix it, this enabled him to keep working and bringing in the penny’s to feed the family. This prompted a discussion on how others have got on in similar situations in the past and also about the legalities of operating a machine in that condition, you can check out and join the debate by clicking on this link. 14344834_10206937344087545_1249206418158788061_n Chris Maginnis from Northern Ireland came up trumps again this week, having discovered an old Hymac 580D hydraulic excavator that I operated for over 9 years in the Hampshire area when I was working for Swanwick Construction. I could not believe my eyes when I first saw the post and I was a bit sad to see the old girl now sat in a breakers yard. I hope to post a blog about this machine next week with some photos that Chris has kindly shared with me, but in the meantime check out the Facebook post here. IMG_1008   David Cordier of Canterbury based DC Plant Hire & Repairs enjoyed his day out last Saturday at the New Haden Plant Sales Dig Day event, which is where he got to try out one of Wacker Neusons latest machines the ET65. David posted a collection of photos from the day on the Facebook page which you can check out by clicking on this link. 14311432_1080096668735568_942666558133333127_o By pure coincidence, in a week that I have been approached by a company promoting some new socks for me to “test drive” blog reader Richard Creighton posted some photos of his JCB socks and posed the question, which socks are the best JCB or Cat, of course neither brand of socks are actually made by the machinery manufacturers but are merely branded merchandise by clothing companies, however it did spark a debate on which ones were the best and you can join the debate here.  14440795_10210605187788832_6032552281768783041_n Kevin Hopkins posted a photo this week featuring the local moggy taking a cat nap in the bucket of his mini excavator. This post featured a flurry of responses and got me to wondering, what’s the strangest thing you have ever seen or had in your digger bucket? Why not join the discussion here. 14355530_864797206953172_4122658055074112404_n And finally this week, Scottish owner/operator Gary Mckay has become the latest adopter of a Scandinavian inspired grading beam attachment. The beam has been manufactured and supplied by Lammer Engineering and is mounted below a Steelwrist tilt-rotator on Gary’s new JCB JS160LC Plus hydraulic excavator.
