Traxcavator back by popular demand

I have had a few requests for more photos of the Caterpillar 963D I visited for Earthmovers magazine and covered in the September edition, so here are a few more shots for you to enjoy.

This site visit came about after a series of “tweets” on Twitter between the Cat operator Jason Snaith, our editor Graham Black and myself, which just goes to show the power and benefits the internet can bring when used correctly. I was only too happy to make a trip to the Midlands to get up close and personal with one of these great machines and to meet Jason in person. Jason joined Apex Contracting in December 2013 after a lengthy spell with Pryor’s operating Trimble/Topcon GPS guided Cat dozers. Jason told us a bit about his 30 year career in the plant game. Jason said “Like so many of our generation, I have been around plant all my life, having started out on a Case 1150 track shovel of my fathers and then progressed onto a JCB 3CX, in fact I’ve been involved in muck shifting ever since I was able to climb onto a machine! In 2000 I entered the Finning UK operator challenge, making my way into the semi-finals, but unfortunately I didn’t quite make it into the top 5. It was a great experience and something I would like to do more of in the future”. I guess you could say I am dedicated to my work, as I have always wanted to be a world class operator and I constantly strive to be one of the best, for me it’s more than a job and it’s something I am deeply passionate about. Jason is clearly an operator who takes great pride in being on top of his game and has a reputation to prove it, in fact in a recent Facebook page thread Jason was described by another group member as one of the best JCB 3CX operators they had ever seen, a fitting tribute to a man’s dedication to the plant game. We thank Jason for the invite to his job. If you fancy appearing on the pages of Earthmovers don’t hesitate to get in touch and one of us will endeavour to pay you a visit.
