A Case for pushing

During my recent Earthmovers visit to the Case Customer Centre in Paris, I was also lucky to get a brief spell on the company’s largest dozer the 2050M LT.

Historically we don't get to see many Case dozers in the UK, in fact one of the last ones I recall spotting being put to work in anger was this old 1150 model (pictured below) at work on the M27 motorway site back in 1974, when I was just a young lad. However that is all set to change with the introduction of the new M Series from Case. I don’t get to spend much time on dozers, but it’s always good to jump on something different from time to time, so naturally I was delighted to be offered some stick time on Case’s top of the range 2050M LT dozer. Weighing in at 48,800 lbs and powered by a 226hp, Tier 4 Final/Stage 3B engine the 2050M is the largest in a 5 model range.  According to Case increased power allows the engines in this range to run at lower speed while developing more torque and boosting drawbar pull. Case also states that the Fiat Power Train (FPT) engines with SCR-only emissions-reduction technology (no particulate filters used) save 10.5 percent in fuel, and an increase in productive efficiency by some 19 percent compared to previous models. The first example of one of these American built dozers to go to work in the UK will be featured in a future issue of Earthmovers Magazine, so I won’t go into too much detail in this post. However I did find the machine extremely user friendly with a very comfortable cab and excellent all round visibility. A new blade control joystick also features a blade shake button to make cleaning the blade easy and a grading mode selection switch that is said to reduce the blade speed by 50% to further improve accuracy. There is a choice of soft, medium and aggressive reversing and steering mode settings and a load-management system automatically reduces track speed (increasing torque) with a heavier load on the blade and increases track speed (reducing torque) with a lighter load on the blade. In addition these machines are available from the factory with a pre-installation kit for Topcon, Trimble and Leica blade control systems which are becoming ever more popular at the moment.
