New kit galore at the Royal Cornwall Show (Part One)

The Digger Man Blog paid its regular visit to what is recognised as one of the premier events of this type in the country. Despite dodgy weather forecasts the show was bathed in sunshine for much of the three days, which made it a delight as I toured the various machinery trade stands.

My first port of call was to the guys at CBL Plant Sales where John Elliott and his team gave me a warm welcome and were keen to show me one of latest offerings from Takeuchi, the TB260. This show stopper had been prepared for Cornish groundwork contractors Steve Hoskin Construction, and featured their familiar blue corporate paintwork. Also on stand in corporate colours was this Thwaites 9 ton dumper featuring the red and white colour scheme of MJL Construction Ltd. This rapidly expanding company now has offices in Helston and Exeter and are winning more and more work in Devon & Cornwall. Owner Matthew Lugg, also ordered an additional 6 new dumpers when he visited the stand on the last day of the show. The new Takeuchi TB216, the replacement for the hugely popular TB016, was also gaining a lot of interest on the stand, with both cab and canopy versions on display, which were proudly displaying the sign writing of their new owners. Merlo telehandlers were also represented on the stand with this Ex-Demo Multifarmer 30.9 model being offered at a knockdown special show price. CBL’s used equipment manager Charlie Oakhill, was on hand to advise customers on this 9 metre reach machine, which features the latest low emissions compliant Deutz engine. Next stop was a visit to our old friends at Plant and Engineering Services (PES) where Jim Prior, Mike Murphy and the team were displaying products from their portfolio of machines. Of note on the Volvo compact side were the new 8 tonne class ECR88D and the 2.5 tonne class ECR25D models, both of which had been sold to Sam Marles Plant Hire who are based at Woodbury Salterton nr Exeter. Volvo’s heavy range was also represented on the stand, with regional area salesman Richard Shelbourne bringing in two examples of machines sold to customers in Cornwall. Tony Wagner Plant Hire recently purchased this Volvo BL71B backhoe loader, which will be featured in a future edition of Earthmovers Magazine. Also on stand was the last of an order for five Volvo EC140DL 14 tonne class hydraulic excavators for dominant Cornish plant hire company WH Bond, who’s newly ordered machines were spotted all over the showground. Finally in this post a visit to the M&M Plant Sales stand, where I met up with our good friend, former plant operator and salesman Luke Harris. No M&M display would be complete without two Case CX210’s parked at either end of the stand and in this shot we see yet another CX210C model on its way to Liskeard based Champion Groundwork’s. In keeping with the latest fall from height regulations, these machines are now being supplied with the boxing ring set up around the upperstucture. Also on stand was this Wacker Neuson 6003-2 six tonne class mini excavator with two piece boom configuration and steel tracks. This machine has been supplied to local contractor Colin Yeo. Lookout for more highlights from the Royal Cornwall Show later this week.
