Unusual JCB's spotted

During my recent visit to JCB in addition to the Met police HMEE excavator, I spotted another couple of unusual items of kit during our tour of the quarry.

One machine that caught my eye straight away was this JCB JS85, an 8.5 tonne conventional tail swing midi excavator the like of which I had never seen before. Apparently these Tier II engine powered machines are made exclusively for the Chinese market. I came across this video of the JCB JS85 machine in action during a “competition” held in in China against a much older Cat 307D model. Have to say it looked a quick little machine, but in fairness to the Cat it would be hard pushed to compete due to its age. Looking like a giant mechanized stag beetle, the hydraulically operated prongs at the front can be used to hold the item in place as the machine pulls the car apart with its rotating grab attachment. Would be fantastic to see one of these machines in action at some point.
