Giant Komatsu is a Big Attraction at Amusement Park

An amusement park is probably the last place you would expect to see a giant Komatsu PC8000-11, but one example is now making a big impact in Switzerland.

Giant Komatsu is a Big Attraction at Amusement Park

The Appenzeller Amusement & Leisure Park, in Herisau, Switzerland, which is home to an indoor play area, climbing hall and slides, is currently hosting the gigantic 800-tonne machine in its Heavy Metal Garden area. The machine made its way from the Komatsu Mining factory in Düsseldorf, Germany, to the site by truck and boat, in the usual manner of component sections.

The largest mining excavator in the Komatsu range, this 800-tonne class machine typically has an operating weight of 768-777-tonnes depending on specification. Two engines produce a total power output of 3000kw (4,020hp) and the standard bucket capacity is a whopping 42m3 (55yd3).

Designed to load dumptrucks ranging from 240 – 400 tonnes, the machine has a majestic slew speed of 2.7 rpm, whichever way you look at it, it’s a beast of a machine, and another one on my bucket list to visit in the future.

One can only imagine the amazement on the faces of young children and families when they get up close with this monster machine.

Checkout the video featuring the build up of the machine on site in Switzerland.
