“Oldtimers” turn out again for classic German machinery event. (#ThrowbackThursday)

Our German friend, machine owner/operator and journalist Dirk Bömer recently attended the Kippertreffen Geilenkirchen classic machinery event near Cologne in Germany.

“Oldtimers” turn out again for classic German machinery event. (#ThrowbackThursday)

Dirk has once again very kindly shared some photos from the event, where he personally was running the superbly restored O&K RH4 Series F hydraulic excavator owned by a good friend of his.

I myself spent some brief time on one of these, back in the mid 1980’s, and found that once you mastered the quirky lever configuration and slew brake, it was a lovely piece of kit. I would definitely like to visit this machine one of these days for a retro test drive experience for Earthmovers Magazine.

A gathering of all the E Series Hanomag loader models ever made were presented for visitors, the line up included 50E, 60E, 70E and 80E models, the 80E machine being a prototype machine.

Dutch civil engineering and transport business Leenaerts Born brought along their International Harvester/ Yumbo hydraulic excavator, and a fine example she is too. French manufacturer Yumbo were originally called SICAM, and they had obtained the manufacturing rights from the famous Italian machinery company Bruneri Brothers. International in turn purchased the rights to Yumbo in 1970, and going forward machines were branded as International Harvester.

There was plenty to see at the event, not just big machines either, one attendee presented a scratch built working model of a Hanomag B11 wheeled loader in 1.2 scale.

And finally in this batch of photos from Dirk, a view from the cab of the O&K RH 4 Series F. Just imagine, if we had all had GoPros in the cab back in those days, we would all be You Tube millionaires by now!

We thank Dirk for sharing these photos with us here on the Digger Man Blog.
