A Welcome Return of the Dig Day

After what feels like an eternity without any events, Engcon hosted another of its popular Dig Day’s, this past weekend, where attendees are invited to try out a tiltrotator, and talk to experts & end users about the products and the concept in general.

A Welcome Return of the Dig Day

The event was held in Langport in Somerset and although the weather did its best to spoil the reunion party, it was generally well attended over the course of the Friday and Saturday.

I took the opportunity to call in on the Friday, on my way back down from an Earthmovers Magazine assignment up in the North of Yorkshire, which worked well with a slight detour off the M5 to call by.

On a personal note, it was great to catch up with our good friends at Engcon UK including Andrew Badham, and Mark Clare who has recently returned to the fold after a short sortie elsewhere. We also caught up with numerous Engcon brand ambassadors, Owen Mays, Darren Day, Stuart Carlyon and Chris Meek. In addition, it was a pleasure to meet the new UK & Ireland Country Manager for Engcon Sam Ryan, who has taken on the position following the departure of Robert Hunt.

Some overnight rain had led to some sticky conditions under foot, so welly boots were the order of the day, Somerset can be a wet old place at the best of times, so I was prepared for it with the boots in the back of the car!

There was a fine collection of machines gathered, and one of the stars of the show for me was the Eurocomach 25ZT in the stunning black livery, fitted with an Engcon EC02 tiltrotator, which was brought down from North Yorkshire by dealers Robustrack.

I spent some brief time on this stylish Italian manufactured machine and found it to be a very smooth operating excavator. I look forward to spending more time looking around these machines for Earthmovers Magazine in the not-too-distant future.

Other machines assembled for the two days included a Kato HD27V4 with Engcon EC204, MRJ Civils Ltd brought along their Volvo ECR145E with EC219, Doosan DX140 with EC219 owned by Courtney King, Doosan DX27z with EC02, Chris Meek had his Yanmar SV18 with EC02 on the demo plot, Weaver Plant displayed their new Kubota KX060-5 with EC206 and long term Engcon user Stuart Carlyon from Cornwall brought along his brand-new Hitachi ZX55U-6 with EC206, this set up features the first QS40 ECOil ready hitch sold in the UK.

There was plenty of great craic, chit chat and complimentary food, all of which was most welcomed after our lengthy enforced layoff of attending events due to the Covid pandemic.
