A You Bet Classic

My recent appearance on the new ITV produced You Bet on Tour TV show, as part of Dave Vickers digger challenge team alongside Neil Grainger, reminded me of one of the highlights of the original show back in the 1980’s which featured a Caterpillar excavator cracking eggs.

During our appearance on the revamped show, we undertook our beach picnic assembly challenge on Bournemouth beach, which you can watch here.

But back in the 80’s/90’s the show was more often than not filmed in a studio, before a selected live audience, and of course the familiar celebrity panel of judges. I'm sure there are many new followers of this blog who may have never seen, or even heard of this show before, and that was one of the reasons I was keen to re-visit the topic. 

This challenge featured our good friend and former Leverton Caterpillar demonstrator Tom Aspin on the deck with a two-way radio and fellow demonstrator Alan Dennis in the seat of a Cat 320L hydraulic excavator operating wearing a blindfold as he attempted to crack the 5 eggs, in 3 minutes without being able to see what he was actually doing, whilst being totally reliant on Tom’s audible feedback.

For a young digger fanatic back in the day, this really was great show and a cracking challenge! (pun intended) and well worthy of another post here on the Digger Man Blog, enjoy the somewhat grainy footage below.
