Big Boys Toys, at Steinexpo 2017
Following yesterday’s blog about Komatsu at Steinexpo 2017 I received a flurry of messages asking for more material and a general overview of the action at the quarry face, which thanks to our friends over at Finnish publication Koneporssi, I am happy to share with you.
My friend and well known Koneporssi journalist Olli Paivio made the trip to Germany from his home in Turku, Finland to cover the event for the magazine and reports that there was plenty of action to see with all the major brands demonstrating their latest models to an eager world-wide audience that had gathered in what is Europe’s largest basalt quarry in Homberg. There was a lot of focus on the larger wheeled loaders including Caterpillars latest reincarnation of its famous 988 model which is now the K series.
Hitachi Construction Equipment showcased its latest ZW370-6 wheeled loading shovel. The 290kw (389hp) machine has an operating weight ranging between 33,680kgs – 34,220kgs depending on specification and has a heaped bucket capacity of 5.6m3. The shovel is seen here loading Bell’s impressive B60E dumptruck.
Olli also produced this video which gives a great general view of the kit on show at the quarry face. The footage shows a wide range of kit from all the big players including Volvo, Hitachi, Bell, Komatsu, Liebherr, Doosan and Hyundai.
