Big Diggers ‘Down Under’

It’s been a while since we shared any of Aaron Witt’s awesome material, and as we all love big diggers, I thought this video would be most welcome here on the Digger Man Blog!

The global earthmoving media sensation "Buildwitt" and his team visited Australia to check out some big kit from the likes of Liebherr, Komatsu and Caterpillar in action out on the mining site.

Aaron had previously visited the giant Liebherr excavator facility in Colmar, France, last year, a place just across the English Channel from me, but still a place I have never yet been fortunate enough to visit, so I’m slightly jealous!

During that trip they were only able to see one playing about on some land at the back of the factory, however, leap forward to this year, and during a tour of the Australian mines in the Bowen Basin, they got to see a big Liebherr being used in anger for the first time.

Aaron spent time with the National Group, who run one of Australia’s largest mining equipment fleets, having been started from humble beginnings with a single Cat D8 dozer back in 1997 by Mark Ackroyd.

On this site the star attraction was the 600-tonne class Liebherr R 996B, which they had to wait around for as it undertook some essential routine maintenance. I’m sure it was well worth the wait though, to capture this mighty beast in action.
