Carter Still Digging
During my tour around the Royal Cornwall Show, I was somewhat surprised to see some examples of mini excavators from the Chinese brand Carter.
It must be some five years since I visited Matthew Davies in Carmarthen Wales, who was at the time the sole importer for the Carter range of mini excavators, that we featured in Earthmovers Magazine around that time.
I hadn’t heard from Matthew since then, and wasn’t even sure if he was still dealing in the Carter range, so it was great to catch up with him again at the show, where he was with one of the sub dealers for the West Country, Harvey Waters Engineering, who are based on the outskirts of Redruth.
Matthew said that they are still doing well with sales of the Carter machines, especially to those in the farming community who just want a no-frills basic digging machine, which in all honesty is all they really need and these machines are more than capable of it. Matthew reported that they have sold over 100 Carter mini excavators now.

Pictured above: The latest CT26 zero tailswing 2.5 tonne class machine which is powered by a Yanmar diesel engine looked tidy enough for sure.
Apparently there have been some changes at the Carter business in China and new and improved models will be being launched over the coming months, including larger excavators, so when the time is right, I will be making another pilgrimage to Wales to try one of the new machines out in the future.
