Chilcott Plant Hire Take Bespoke Tri-Axle Dump Trailers

Based in Truro, Cornwall, Chilcott Plant Hire Ltd have built up a reputation for running top quality machinery, designed specifically to meet their requirements, and a recent order for two purpose-built dump trailers is further evidence of their investment in such kit.

"Hands-on" Managing Director Christopher Chilcott commissioned the building of these “one-off” 30-tonne capacity dump trailers which were designed and fabricated by Larrington Trailers of Boston, Lincolnshire.

These impressive beasts, are drawn by equally beasty, New Holland T7 315 tractors, which are powered by a Stage V emissions compliant engines producing a power output rating of 230kw (313hp) with both tractors and trailers supplied by local and long-established dealers Truro Tractors.

The trailers have been specified with Hardox steel bodywork, feature hydraulic suspension, onboard electric weighing system and 2-axle forced rear wheel steering, offering 60% turning at the last axle and 40% on the second axle in.

In addition, the hydraulically operated tail-gate keeps the load in place until reaching the dump area. These bespoke trailers have been finished off in a stunning sapphire blue livery which matches the blue paintwork of the tractors.

We caught up with one of the units down in Helston in Cornwall where Chris is helping out his mate Kirk Hough on a new project as featured in the blog last Tuesday.

The man in the seat on the day was tractor operator Luke Griffiths, who was clearly impressed with his new mount, in true Cornish style Luke commented, “Its some beast of a trailer mind” and one has to say, from what we saw on the day, we would have to agree with him there!

The trailers join a Chilcott Plant Hire fleet that sees them literally working from one end of the country to the other, from Cornwall right up to Scotland, working on major wind farm projects and the like.
