Classic Plant Iconic TV Show: Road Builders

As promised last week on the Digger Man Blog, I’m delighted to present another episode of the iconic Classic Plant TV show that was first aired on Channel 4 back in 1998.

Classic Plant Iconic TV Show: Road Builders

This edition entitled Road Builders was one of a six-episode series, and as the title indicates, features the men and machinery used to construct and maintain Britain’s road network and indeed, build some of the first motorways in the country.

The show features some legendary manufacturers machines including Marshal road rollers, Galion motor graders, and bulldozers from International and Caterpillar.

Towards the end of the show we see the Vickers Vigor VR180 dozer, these machines were said to be extremely fast, and were powered by a 180 hp Rolls Royce engine, although I am led to believe that there was also a Cummins power option.

Some of the footage is a bit dodgy with variation in sound quality as its been taken off a 20-year old VHS cassette, but don’t let that detract from what is a very enjoyable programme, grab yourself a coffee and enjoy!
