Dealing with the “White Stuff” Swedish style

Winter is with us now in the UK and many up North have now seen the first snowfall of the year. We are as a nation notoriously bad at dealing with extreme weather conditions and could learn many lessons from our Nordic friends in Sweden.

Generally in Sweden life goes on as usual despite far heavier snow fall than we get in the UK, in fact since opening in 1962 Stockholm’s Arlanda airport has never been closed due to snowfall and indeed the airport claims to be a world leader at runway snow clearing operations. However in this video from Alexander Lipkin a fellow member of the top Swedish forum Maskinisten.net we see snow clearance operations being undertaken in a more urban location, using a Svedala Arbra snowblower mounted on a Volvo L60E wheeled loader which is being used to clear the bulk of the heavy snow, whilst a Volvo L90C fitted with an ice cutting blade and sideplough cleans up the remaining deposits. For me personally when it snows at home I tend to stay there!
