Digger Man Hits a Birthday Milestone

Something a bit different today, I’m generally a very humble and private person, and not one to blow my own trumpet, but today I reach a milestone birthday, so I just wanted to gratuitously celebrate that fact here on the blog.

So, incredibly I reach the BIG 60 birthday today, which feels like it has crept up on me somewhat rapidly. I often recall sitting in the JCB 3CII as a youngster with my late father, who would often say that the years fly by faster as you get older, a comment that I always used to laugh at, but those words are starting to ring true now!

However, I guess there are some benefits to reaching this age, apparently, I will now get a free bus pass, (I never use buses!) and I will now receive my medical prescriptions for free!

All joking aside though, having been through the wringer in the past few years in my personal life, I have recently been working hard on a health drive, spurred into action by my dear friend Tracey Veale who has pushed and bullied me into a healthy eating regime and encouraged me to take more exercise and now thanks to her, and other great friends around the world who have also supported me, I am feeling in the best shape for years, so it’s a big thank you for that.

This blog too, having originally been established on the old Contract Journal website as far back as 2008, is now approaching 8 years old on the Earthmovers Website platform, since I joined them in 2013. In those early days I was still operating excavators on site and doing this work as a side-line, but in 2015 it was becoming increasingly difficult to combine the two roles with the ever-increasing media workload and that’s when I made the decision to commit 100% to the media work.

It’s been a crazy ride and one that I enjoy immensely, and something that in difficult times has kept me sane, and focussed, so I’d like to thank everyone who takes the time to follow the blog and my wider work with the magazine, and recently as part of the Construction Collective with my colleagues Peter Haddock and Mark Anthony.

I’ll be enjoying a few celebratory beers tonight to celebrate my birthday, I hope you will join me too, so its cheers from me and thanks again!
