Digger’s Conexpo Highlights: Caterpillar Roll Out New Products

As we expected, American construction machinery giant Caterpillar put on a stunning show at Conexpo 2020 in Las Vegas. In their own back yard Cat assembled no less than 30 brand new machines with many being demonstrated on the demo plot in the operator stadium, which was also home to the Global Operator Challenge final on the opening day.

Digger’s Conexpo Highlights: Caterpillar Roll Out New Products

The Caterpillar brand is synonymous with track type tractors, especially dozers. The manufacturer displayed a number of new models including the D3, D5, a new High Drive D7, while out on the demo plot the all new High Drive, Electric Drive D6 XE was put through its paces.

New excavator models were rolled out and of particular interest to the UK market would be the all new 313 GC model, which replaces the outgoing 313F GC. The machine is powered by a Cat C3.6 engine which offers a power output rating of 73hp (54.3kw) and requires no AdBlue making it ideal for the plant hire/rental market.

The machine features an all new larger cab and in line with some of the larger models in the Cat excavator line up, a large plastic fuel tank with integrated steps for access to the engine bay.

Also of interest to UK customers the new 315 compact radius hydraulic excavators tips the scales at 34,000lbs (15,400kgs) and is powered by the same Cat C3.6 engine but in this application rated at 108hp (80.9kw). According to Caterpillar the machine has improved powerful hydraulics and increased swing torque and can offer up to 45% more operator efficiency compared to the previous model.

The all-wheel drive Cat 150 AWD motor grader replaces the outgoing 140M3 model and features a whole raft of improvements and technology to make the operators life so much easier.

Weighing in at 43,950lbs (19,935kgs) the 150 AWD is powered by a Cat C9.3 diesel engine and features a 12ft blade. Its always a delight to watch a grader in action and you can check it out in the video of the demo at the end of this post.

The latest Cat ADT to be produced by the UK based factory in Peterlee is the all new 725. This machine is also powered by Cat’s C9.3 power pack rated in this application at 342hp (255kw).

The machine features an all new cab design, which has been re-engineered following consultation with operators worldwide. Enhancements include new controls, transmission-protection features, hoist-assist system, advanced automatic traction control system, automatic retarder control, stability-assist machine rollover warning system, and a fuel saving ECO mode.
