Doosan Makes its “Concept-X” a Reality

Last week Doosan brought its Concept-X work solution closer to becoming a genuine reality as it displayed its unmanned machine technologies to an international audience of over 200 people at its proving ground facility in Boryeong City, in South Korea.

Doosan Makes its “Concept-X” a Reality

Concept-X is a comprehensive control solution that can be used to survey worksite topography via 3D drone scanning, establish operational plans based on the topographical data and operate construction equipment such as excavators and wheel loaders without human intervention. In short, Concept-X realizes the construction site of the future by having difficult construction work performed solely by equipment, leaving human personnel free to concentrate on more sophisticated analysis and management tasks. This idea started out as a computer generated image of what Doosan saw for the future and gradually its coming to fruition.

We have seen a number of these unmanned technology concepts before, but nothing on the scale that Doosan Infracore is attempting with Concept-X, which will be a complete construction site operation process, using the latest technologies to survey the autonomous operation and control of the site equipment, such as ADT’s, excavators and wheeled loaders.

Concept-X also comprises a wide range of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as image recognition, cognitive/control technologies, 5G remote control, 3D drone surveys, and accurate workload estimation and assignment, and failure prediction technologies.

The work on this technology will continue I’m sure but its early days at the moment, Doosan Infracore has hinted that it has plans in place to commercialize Concept-X by 2025.

Checkout the video from the last weeks event here, which for some reason appears to be silent.
