Ever Wondered Where Volvo Mini Excavators are Built?

Volvo Construction Equipment, recently released a video which gives us a brief insight into the facility in Belley, France, where Volvo mini excavators under 6-tonne are designed, tested and built.

I have visited many construction equipment manufacturing facilities around the world, but it’s always an eye opener to see another one. The Volvo CE facility in Belley, was once the factory producing the old Pel-Job mini excavator range, which became part of the Volvo Group in 1995, it’s not one that I have been too personally so it was interesting to see this video.

The factory offers gainful employment to more than 370 people, who are engaged in various roles including engineering, manufacturing, prototype testing, training and customer experience guides.

Machines built in Belley range from 1.5-tonne mini excavators up to 6-tonne compact mini excavators. Like many other factories, steel components are welded, shaped and painted to roll of the production line as shiny brand-new machines. They are then taken through rigorous quality control procedures, and hot testing before being finally prepared for delivery to dealers around the world.  

Belley is also heavily involved in the development of Volvo CE’s electric range of mini excavators, which are all part of Volvo CE’s wider electric journey. Apparently, Belley is the factory where they pioneered Volvo’s first ever electric mini excavator the ECR25 Electric, which feels like it’s been around forever, leading the way in battery powered electric mini excavator technology.
