Excavation Hawaii style

Having recently spotted a very distinctive green liveried Caterpillar 314E L CR on Twitter, I made contact with the owner, as I was keen to find out more about this exciting looking business.

Truth Excavation is the branchild of 4th generation Maui Native Kimo Clark. Kimo started the company in 2011 when he gained his required contractor licence for excavation, grading and trenching and drainage systems including septic tanks. Since those early days business has been booming for Kimo and his team. In fact Kimo informs us that his business has grown 1000% in the last 3 years, having initially started out with a backhoe loader and a single axle dump truck, the company now runs 10 pieces of equipment ranging from 3 tonne mini excavators to a 35 tonne excavator which are supported by various trucks and trailers. The current star of the show is the brand new Cat 314E L CR compact radius hydraulic excavator which is featured in this blog post. Truth Excavation specializes in doing work for high end custom homes. In fact 90% of the jobs they undertake are on multi-million dollar properties which as you can see from the photos offer breath-taking views  on the West side of Maui. According to Kimo the company never compromise for quality work and have a long list of very happy customers. The company never does any advertising and all their work is 100% referral. The distinctive green and black corporate colours on the equipment and logo really stand out from the crowd offering some modern day fashion styling. Kimo told us more about it, “When I started the company, I wanted to stick out from the normal boring construction colours and themes.  I wanted to incorporate my favourite styles and themes and also be relevant to the current market around the world while sticking to what influenced me growing up on an island”. Kimo continued, “I've recently started a side line company called TRU.X which was an abbreviation for Truth Excavation, but turned into a phrase that means stay True to your passion (X) whatever that may be.  Here on Maui, I surf, skate, ride dirt bikes and operate heavy machinery.  The X factor can be anything that you love and are passionate about.  Photography, mountain biking, sewing, writing, rock climbing, or flying kites”. Proud owner Kimo Clark with his latest addition the Cat 314E L CR “This is how I like to approach every new job.  With a mind-set of being passionate about what I do, an eye for what technologies and trends are currently happening, and a vision of what could be better for the future”. It certainly looks like a great place to work and it’s clear to see that Kimo has a successful business on his hands. The Digger Man Blog will be following this success story closely in the future and who knows, maybe a site visit in the coming years!
