Excavator consumed by sinkhole!

Came across a set of images that are currently doing the rounds on the various plant and machinery related pages on social media which I thought you might like a look at.

Excavator consumed by sinkhole!
Over the years on the Digger Man Blog we have brought you photos and videos of machines which have fallen into collapsed basements on demolition jobs and the like, but I don’t think we have ever reported on machines being gobbled up by naturally occurring sinkholes! However, a quick bit of surfing on the web uncovers that this is not that uncommon at all, and there are numerous examples to read about. This series of pictures feature what appears to be a Hyundai R 210LC-9 hydraulic excavator which has come to grief in the sinkhole pit. Details on where this took place seem hard to find, but its clearly in a Spanish speaking part of the world, judging by the wording on the tape. Its also unclear if this incident took place during the working day or when the machine was parked overnight. Lets just hope if it was working, that the operator managed to escape unhurt, although one would expect a change of underpants would have been required! In the video below, (courtesy of CBS New York) we see another example of a machine trapped in a sinkhole, on this occasion it’s a Kubota mini excavator in the USA, it’s the stuff of nightmares!
