Friday Fun: Volvo EC160E Remote Control Model

We don’t often feature models here on the Digger Man Blog, but this one looks a great example and being remote control, you can actually use the thing and have some fun with it!

Friday Fun: Volvo EC160E Remote Control Model

We have all seen the cheap plastic versions of these remote-control hydraulic excavators, of varying quality, but this all-metal version of a Volvo EC160E in 1:14 scale from Double E is the real deal. Not only does it look good in terms of exterior detail, it also features opening panels and cab door, and the machine digs, tracks and swings, smoothly, just like a real excavator, by using the operator friendly control panel.

In behind the counterweight, which is removeable, the unit has a rechargeable 7.4v battery, while the control unit requires 4 x AA batteries of which rechargeable ones would be the preferred option I would imagine.

For extra lifelike detail this unit even includes working LED lights mounted on the front of the cab roof. This model weighs in at around 10.8kgs and is officially licensed by Volvo Construction Equipment.

Finding a genuine price for this model online has proven to be difficult, as the ones I have seen range from £89 up to £207. However, this will be one for the Christmas wish list later this year, I’m sure we all deserve a bit of fun after the past 12 months we have endured!
