Get Set for the Excavator Winter Olympics

With the controversial Beijing Winter Olympics taking place next month, 4th – 20th February, it got me thinking about a post I did back in the early days of this blog in 2011 when it was hosted on the Construction Index website which I thought would be good to re-visit.

The rather grainy video, by today’s standards features a New Holland-Kobelco E70B SR performing a downhill ski type stunt down an icy slope, whilst emulating the late great Finnish ski jumper Matti Nykänen.

Although I did not realise it at the first time of original posting, the stunt was performed by well-known and highly respected Finnish owner/operator Janne Leppänen, who also happens to be one of my many Finnish friends on Facebook.

Janne who these days is running a very stylish looking Eurocomach 8-tonner is probably best known for being a multiple winner of the CASE Rodeo competitions which used to be held in Paris, until in a rather harsh move, they stopped him from entering due to the fact that he is just too good!

However, with what is my personal favourite Olympics looming once more on the horizon, I thought it would be great to post the video once again, so enjoy!
