GJ Plant returns to service, integrating more Xwatch Systems for Thomas Plant Hire
Thomas Plant Hire features over 3,000 machines in its rental fleet. This collection includes a broad spectrum of excavators, spanning from 1.5 tonnes up to 50 tonnes, including top-notch machines from renowned brands like Hitachi, Caterpillar, Kobelco, Komatsu, and Liebherr. In addition, the company's dozer collection is impressive with 72 machines and an additional 20 currently on delivery.
Ian McMillan, Head of Business Development at Thomas Group, shared the company's ambitious plans after investing approximately £50m in new plant and machinery in 2022. A similar investment is anticipated for 2023.
Thomas Plant’s OnGrade Machine Control division is also a growing part of the business - the company specialise in Intelligent GPS Machine Control systems, partnering with brands like Leica, Topcon, and Trimble. The new Xwatch Leica 3D Avoidance system is also on offer, rapidly becoming a favourite in the hire market.

Emphasising safety, Thomas Plant has equipped more than 90 of its excavators with the Xwatch system. This number is expected to grow as they continue to prioritise fleet safety.
Recently, 45 machines were enhanced with Xwatch Safety Solutions XW2 Rated Capacity Indication. Gareth James from GJ Plant remarked, "The system is user-friendly, reliable, and delivers exactly what it promises with solid components and unmatched support."

Gareth James of GJ Plant in partnership with Xwatch’s sister company Fitzgerald Plant Services based in Cwmbran, Wales, undertook the system installations.

Ian McMillan elaborated on their choice of Xwatch, emphasising its valuable Network Rail approval. "The quality of service from Gareth James and Fitzgerald Plant Services is impeccable," he said. McMillan praised Xwatch for its ambitious drive, stating, "Xwatch is always innovating, making them true pioneers and market leaders in machine safety." He also mentioned the ease of system operation and the importance of approvals from institutions like Network Rail and Highways.
