Got a Crush on Bomag!

Due to the nature of waste compactors, they are rarely seen in operation by many of us, often than not working down in landfill operations away from public eyes.

Got a Crush on Bomag!

Having said that, they are impressive pieces of kit, but due to the kind of work they undertake, maybe not so impressive to be working on in terms of maintenance and servicing, something I don’t think my stomach could take! It’s a tough job but somebody has to do it, I guess.

However, a couple of years ago when I was attending the Bomag Innovation days event in Boppard, Germany, we were treated to a grand finale at the end of the show, where a BC1173 compactor, entered the arena, and promptly crushed 3 scrap cars in an impressive display of crushing power!

This was probably the closest I had ever come to one of these large machines, apart from seeing them on static display at the various international trade shows over the years.

With an operating weight of 56,600kg, power for this beast comes from a Stage V emissions compliant Cummins X15 6-cylinder diesel engine, producing a gross power output rating of 429kw (575hp). The machines feature premium compaction wheels, which provide better material compaction, and are kept clean by the installation of scraper bars and wire cutters.
