Hitachi’s Big Compact Excavator
It was while visiting the Maxpo Show in Hyvinkää, Finland last August, I got my first sighting of Hitachi’s new 36-tonne class ZX375USLC-7 compact radius hydraulic excavator.
The example displayed on Finnish Hitachi dealer Rotator Oy’s stand in the demo area, was the first one to be delivered to a customer anywhere in Europe and was purchased by KMS Palvelu Oy, an earthworks contractor based in Somero, north-west of Helsinki, and was featured in our colleague Eoghan Daly’s superb front cover article in the November edition of Earthmovers Magazine. A static display version was also presented on the stand for visitors to paw over.
This model has been available in North America and parts of Asia for some time now, but has for some reason, only recently been marketed in Europe.

These larger compact excavator models across all brands, are becoming increasingly popular on projects across Europe, so it comes as no real surprise that Hitachi are keen to grab their share of the market in this sector.
Powered by a Stage V emissions compliant, six-cylinder Isuzu diesel engine, which pushes out 197kW at just 1500rpm, the machine looks to be very frugal on the fuel consumption front, and of course is brimming with the latest blue-chip hydraulic technology that we have come to expect from Hitachi products over the years.
