Hyundai’s Big One Remembered

Last week on our Digger Man Blog Facebook group, I posted a number of photos, celebrating our great working relationship with our friend and industry colleague Louise Carney, who has been our point of contact for all things Hyundai for the past 8 years plus.

Hyundai’s Big One Remembered

Unfortunately for us, Louise has now moved on from the role, and will be sadly missed by us here on the Digger Man Blog, but of course we will continue to work with her on other projects.

However, this got me thinking about some of the highlights from the Hyundai years with Lou, which saw us work together on some amazing sites, and shows both nationally and internationally.

One that sprang to mind and got a lot of interest was the launch of the massive 120-tonne class R1200-9 hydraulic excavator, which took place during Intermat in Paris in 2015.

That first machine later went on to be delivered to Démolition et terrassement XL Sàrl from Nidderkuer, Luxembourg, and was put to work on a demolition site right in the financial heart of the city.

Having posted the photo of the machine being revealed at Intermat in a blaze of razzamatazz with dancing girls, music, lights and smoke, it transpired that Al Grierson of the founder of the You Tube channel Construction Channel Luxembourg, had captured the big machine in action on the site early in 2019.

English born Al is an interesting character, who works as a professional English teacher in Luxembourg, and although he has never worked in the construction or earthmoving industries, he has an almost “geek” like interest in the heavy machinery, and one has to say, he really knows his stuff too!

Al reports that the big machine has since been parked up in a quarry for some time. I’m not even sure if the model remains in the Hyundai Construction Equipment portfolio, as a quick search online revealed its no longer listed in excavator range.

Anyway, I thought I would share one of 3 videos of this machine on Al’s You Tube platform for us to watch, if you enjoy it, be sure to subscribe to his channel.
