In a Spin with Mecalac at Bauma

I think this week, as we head on up to the well deserved Christmas break, will see an end to our post Bauma coverage, however I cannot sign off from the Bavarian machinery fest without re-visiting the Mecalac stand, where we previously checked out their new electric powered machines, but we also encountered the first public appearance of the all new Revotruck.

In a Spin with Mecalac at Bauma

There is something of a revolution happening in the cabbed dumper sector, as manufacturers compete to offer the next big safety feature. The fact that site dumpers have finally got a cab after so many years of the driver being exposed to the elements is a blessing in itself, but to witness the developments coming down the line is fantastic.

At Bauma I noted that a number of manufacturers are no longer happy with the rotating seat dual view approach, but are now developing dumpers where the whole cabin rotates at the flick of a switch. One of those machines is Mecalac’s Revotruck which, as we have come to expect from the French based manufacturer, is a super stylish piece of kit.

When you think about it, it really is the most logical setup, as with the whole cabin revolving, everything remains the same from the operator’s perspective, little things like the mirrors remain in position without need for frequent adjustment, and no more laborious manual rotating of the seat which can cause massive fatigue when repeated 100’s of times a day.

Finer details on the product have been hard to come by at this stage, but I understand it will compete in the 10-12-tonne class with power coming from a Perkins Stage V emissions compliant diesel engine producing a power output of 55kW (74hp).

I’m looking forward to getting “hands on” with one in the not-too-distant future for Earthmovers Magazine.
