JCB’s DIGatron rocks at Monster Jam TM

JCB’s DIGatron TM monster truck made its international debut at the Monster Jam TM event which took place at the London Stadium on Saturday 13th July.

JCB’s DIGatron rocks at Monster Jam TM

The giant truck made its American debut back in January at the Monster Jam event in San Antonio at the Alamodome venue, in the city that will be home to the new American JCB factory.

The truck is inspired by JCB’s iconic backhoe loader, a machine that has made the Staffordshire based manufacturer a household name, much in the way a Hoover has become synonymous with vacuum cleaners.

The truck's red seat pays homage to the original machine’s red seats, which many of us remember very fondly, and was designed in collaboration with the JCB equipment design team and Feld Motor Sports. The truck is approximately 10.5 feet tall, 12.5 feet wide, 17 feet long and weighs 12,000 pounds.

A Monster Jam engine will generate 1,500 horsepower, thanks to a supercharger that forces air and fuel into the engine. It is powered by methanol fuel, consumed at the rates of three gallons a minute from a specially constructed safety cell.

As part of JCB’s partnership with Monster Jam TM the DIGatron TM will be driven by the reigning Monster Jam racing champion Tristan England who was putting the truck through its paces on the weekend.

Earthmovers editor Graham Black was a special guest at the event and has shared this batch of photos with us, he also mentioned that he caught an unplanned rollover on camera! A full report on the event will feature in the next edition of Earthmovers.
