Komatsu Gears Up in the North East

Komatsu the world’s second largest construction and mining equipment manufacturer, has been on a post-lockdown recruitment drive at its superb Birtley facility in the North East of England, as the company has won a number of significant orders for its British built hydraulic excavators.

The company has seen an intake of no less than 120 new faces arrive at the factory in recent months, and in addition 10 new young apprentices have joined the ranks, who face a bright future with the business that has a long history of bringing in much needed young blood and seeing them rise up the ranks.

One former apprentice is Stephen Callaghan who has recently been promoted up to the Production Control Manager role, making him the third former apprentice to take on a managerial role at the Birtley facility which has now been operational for an incredible 34 years.

The jobs have been created as the company has secured orders not only for the domestic market, but also orders for the wider European market. With new products coming down the line in the not-too-distant future, it promises to be an exciting time for Komatsu and its new employees.

Having been fortunate enough to visit the Birtley facility a few times in the past, I’m always impressed with the quality of workmanship and the professional and friendly approach of everyone who is involved at the factory.
