LEGO Liebherr Toys for Big Boys

With Christmas looming fast on the horizon I thought it would be a great idea to take a look at this stunning kit from the famous Danish toy brick building company LEGO.

This latest LEGO Technic kit is said to be their biggest ever and that’s hardly surprising really when the subject is massive R 9800 mining excavator from Liebherr. In real life the R 9800 has an operating weight, in this face shovel configuration of 810.00 tonnes, has a combined power output rating of 2,984kw (4,000hp) @1800rpm and has a front shovel capacity of 42.00 cubic metres, impressive statistics whichever way you look at it!

For those with plenty of time on their hands the LEGO version will keep you occupied for a while as it has 4,108 pieces to trawl through and put together, along with 7 electric motors to power the different working components of the kit and company decals to fit to the finished article. One would imagine you would need plenty of patience and determination to see it through, and probably deep pockets as an average price appears to be around the £399 mark! In real life these gigantic excavators are normally only seen in countries such as Australia, Canada and North America working on some of the largest mining projects in the world, I'm yet to see one personally in the metal, but I'm confident my day will come eventually!
