Liebherr’s All New TA 230 ADT Hits the UK Ground Running!

As we reported on our Digger Man Blog Facebook group our friends over at Diggers & Dozers were invited along as part of a small selected group of media types, to take a look at this design award winning truck, as it was put through its paces. Although we covered it on social media, I feel its important to document it here on the main blog for future reference.

These trucks were first revealed in prototype form, as far back as 2019 when once again, a small select group of journalists got to see them in action at the impressive test track facility in Kirchdorf, Germany.

These new trucks are the direct replacement for the first TA 230 models which were launched back during Bauma 2010. In all fairness they were not the prettiest looking things and were not much of a success, but with these, it appears they have gone right back to the drawing board, and produced an absolute stunner!

According to Liebherr’s press release, the new model features a much notably higher ground clearance, thanks in part to the relocation of the powershift transmission behind the operator’s cab. The Liebherr TA 230 also features a redesigned swivel joint with tapered roller bearing, plus front and rear axles secured by A-rods – these also contributing to the impressive ground clearance.

The TA 230 is powered by a 12-litre six-cylinder engine producing 360hp that meets Stage 5 emissions standards and is linked to an eight-speed automatic powershift transmission. With the actively controlled longitudinal differential locks, automatic traction control is also available for the TA 230 Litronic.

The new truck can transport as much as 28 tonnes, and features a number of improvements for quick loading and unloading, including a dump body with low sills and a straight front edge.

In addition, there’s an in-built weighing system as standard, while loading lights are optional. Also on the options list, is dump body heating with exhaust gas management, which makes unloading easier at cooler temperatures. Even with the optional tailgate, the overall width of the TA 230 Litronic is still below 3m.

In the sound-proof cab, operators are treated to loads of space and panoramic views, says Liebherr, while a touch display with integrated rear camera also increases visibility in the rear area. Aiding operation are assistance systems such as hill start assist, speed assist and hard stop function, which activates/deactivates the end position damping of the body lifting cylinder.

Our friend Mark Anthony's son Freddie Anthony of Diggers & Dozers put together this video montage for us, cheers Fred!
