LM Trac grows in size in Harjavalta

In Harjavalta in Finland, the city’s municipal technical services are responsible for maintaining the city’s outdoor areas.

LM Trac grows in size in Harjavalta

Since the start of winter, the local authorities’ operations have been significantly improved with the arrival of a new LM Trac 687 property maintenance machine, which has replaced an outgoing LM Trac 586 machine that had amassed many hours of work.

The LM Trac 687 that has now been handed over, is the third machine manufactured in Rauma for the city of Harjavalta.

Harjavalta’s municipal (local council) technical services employ about a dozen people, almost all of whom also work as machine operators. The fleet consists of a couple of smaller Wille and this new LM Trac that has now been put into operation. In addition, the larger fleet consists of a few tractors.

The area of operation is the city of Harjavalta, and the tasks include the year-round maintenance of light traffic routes, sports areas and city yards. In addition, the machines perform a variety of auxiliary tasks, such as unloading and loading loads at construction and repair sites. The new, larger LM Trac is expected to be a welcome piece of equipment for these tasks.

The machine was received by Technical Director Petri Katajisto (Centre Right), who was accompanied by all the employees of the municipal technical services. In connection with the handover of the machine, the entire team was also given training on its use.

The tasks of the property maintenance machines in Harjavalta include winter snow removal and sanding, as well as spring sand removal and other cleaning with brushes and scrubbers. In the summer, the machines are used to help with irrigation and to transport smaller maintenance equipment. There is also plenty to do in the fall, including cleaning up the leaf harvest.

Jarmo Tynjälä, foreman of municipal technical services, says that regardless of the weather conditions, the machines are always on the move a lot, for example, ploughing roads and fields if there is no other work to do.

Big LM Trac

Harjavalta has been considering purchasing a larger property maintenance machine for a long time, which would enable a wider range of services due to the increased performance. The new machine has twice as much engine power available, and with it, of course, much more lifting power.

According to Tynjälä, this is extremely beneficial when performing assisted lifting on various work sites. The front of the new LM Trac will feature a U-plough, bucket, forklift tines, open brush, reel crusher, collecting brush, log grapple and perhaps the most popular winter work equipment at the moment, the winged snow bucket.

So, there are many different tasks available to Tomi Rantanen, who received this new machine as his latest mount. Tom already has 25 years of experience in the field. Now, with a twinkle in the corner of his eye, he says that he has gained a new spark for his work when he received such a truly versatile power package.
