Merlo Dumper Footage Spotted
Over the weekend I came across a video featuring Merlo’s DM9 site dumper, and thought it was worthy of a spot here on the Digger Man Blog.
We first came across the Merlo DM9 way back during Bauma 2022 which came as a bit of a shock as we traditionally associate the Italian manufacturer with material handling equipment such as telehandlers, so this machine seemed to be a bit of departure from their usual line of equipment.
However, historically, Merlo are no strangers to site dumpers as back in 1964 when the company was founded by the late Mr Amilcare Merlo, the first product they manufactured was a small forward tipping dumper.
The 9-tonne class DM9 made its UK debut at Plantworx in 2023 and I would assume it will be in the line up of products to appear at this years Plantworx event in September 23rd – 25th.

In line with many other dumper manufacturers in the market, this machine can be driven facing either way and the models can be specified with a fixed or a 180-degree powered swivel tipping skip, allowing the operator to have complete control over load discharge and distribution whilst unloading.
Equipped with a rigid chassis the DM dumper provides excellent stability, even on undulating terrain and a high level of ride comfort. Merlo state that the 4-wheel drive, 4-wheel steering and 3 steering modes offer unrivalled performance, providing the operator with fantastic manoeuvrability and increased ride comfort for longer hauls.

I would have to say that looking at the video, the ROPS & FOPS level 2 approved cab does tend to look rather cosy, and the fact that you have to open the door to spin the seat around, suggests there is room for improvement in that area.
I think I will be taking a closer look at this machine during Plantworx to check out the cab for myself, in the meantime, checkout the promotional video, which appears to have been shot somewhere in the UK, from Merlo below
